Brest Fortress was and is one of the most famous places of memory, earlier in the USSR, and now not only in Belarus, but also in Russia and other countries. History researcher Christian Ganzer, who lives in Leipzig for several years and researches the events of June 1941 and Culture Memory in Belarus. In his lecture, he will talk about the battle for Brest Fortress and its role in Soviet and post-Soviet discourse. Particular attention will be paid to the issue of how after the war there was a narrative about the heroic defense. As part of the lecture will be featured reflections of the researcher about what the culture of memory is needed to modern society.
