Street performance “TO RINGFLY”

Street performance “TO RINGFLY”

The performance is rooted into the creations of Daniil Kharms – one of the most significant and interesting representatives of the Russian Avanguard. One more source is present Belorussian reality – the crisis, the prison, a spy phobia, KGB interrogations…<!–more–>

Stylistics of the performance has been defined as 30th of that very Leningrad, where Kharms lived and created. The performance greatly contains elements of the absurdity. The source of expression was found in silent films, oriental theatre and buffoonery. Stilts, masks, street orchestra, participating spectators turn street into Kharms’ farce.

“TO RINGFLY” is a chronicle of room and street events in a large city, a chronicle of rumours. Its characters are from familiar streets and gateways: funny “small person” Mrkokov, despotic powerfull Petr Nikolaevich, fearsome gloomy Janitor, compelling and sexual Antonina Alekseevna, absurd foolish Kalindov… The Personages molest to ladies, brawl, change the masks and transform into Adam and Eva, playing fall of man in Kharms’ version, fight, tear off ears from each other…

However a fun can change into the terrible. The clownery andexcessive courage can lead to a prison. The system doesn’t like tomfoolery and a strange provoking behavior… The NKVD officer turns into Indian god of a night and punishment, a beauty into a crone with the watches, a buffoon beating turnsinto interrogation and prison, a colorful dream into death…

But suddenly in the prisoner’s hands a baby in a red wrap appears, than one more and more and more… Perhaps there is a hope?
